For me, photography is a way of preserving what time might otherwise erase. It is about looking at an image and reliving emotions, reconnecting with cherished memories, and keeping my family’s story alive. Because a great photograph does more than capture a moment: it allows us to feel it all over again.
I have known Yuri’s work for more than ten years, and throughout that time, he has documented some of the most important chapters of our story. He photographed my children when they were still little, my father’s 80th birthday, and one of his photographs even inspired the cover of the book that tells my parents’ story. He has captured moments from our life in Brasília, the architecture we love so much, the covers of both of my CDs, and our missionary work here in Toronto.
But what makes me remain so loyal to Yuri goes beyond the quality of his work. He has a unique ability to connect with our family and turn every photo session into an emotional experience, creating moments that become part of our story, too.
When we decided to bring him to Canada to photograph the wedding of our eldest son, Pedro, to Sara, I knew exactly what I was looking for: the perspective of someone who would do more than simply take photographs, someone who could tell the story of that day. Someone capable of capturing the gestures, emotions, and details that might go unnoticed in the moment but would become precious as the years went by.
And that is exactly what he did.
I am certain that, in the future, when Pedro and Sara look at these photographs, they will be able to relive the emotions of that day and share with their children the story of one of the most important moments of their lives.
Because, to me, photography must do more than show what happened. It must awaken emotions, make our hearts race, and touch our souls. It must allow us to feel once again what we experienced.
And that is what Yuri Cezar does: he doesn’t just photograph moments; he makes stories last forever.
